| Ferdinand Garbin is the architect
who designed Coamo Springs golf club to fit into the desert conditions found in the south
of Puerto Rico. A graduate of Penn State University, he received a B.S. in Agronomy under
H. Burton Musser, regarded as the father of turfgrass management. Garbin worked with James
Gilmore Harrison until 1963, who himself studied under Donald J. Ross, considered the
greatest golf course architect of all times. He is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and was the youngest President ever to serve this organization. He has also been on the Board of Directors of ASGA. Ferdinand Garbins professional abilities have taken him to such places as Spain, Ireland, Puerto Rico and more often New York, Virginia and Ohio, to name a few. Master Planning has become a very large part of his business since Garbin became interested in restoring and enlarging the "Classic Courses", without losing their old charm. At present, Garbin teams with design associate Sandy S. Bigler, who Golf Digest named one of its top five women architects. Together, they have designed challenging 18-hole championship caliber golf courses and are noted for addressing the concerns of women golfers and assisting with the careful planning for all types of golfers. |
